Automation and MCC Panels

Automation and MCC panels provide central control of the elevators, conveyors, screws, fans and gates in a grain storage facility. Motor protection and starting equipment, PLC control and a mimic-diagram operator panel let the line run sequentially, safely and with full visibility.

What Is a Automation and MCC Panel and How Does It Work?

In an MCC (motor control centre) panel, the switch, contactor, thermal relay and starter of each piece of equipment are grouped in separate compartments. Using PLC or relay logic, the equipment is started in sequence against the direction of flow; when one unit stops, the units upstream of it are stopped automatically. The mimic-diagram operator panel shows the line status with indicator lights and allows manual intervention.

Key Features

  • MCC and control panels engineered for the specific plant
  • Sequential start and interlock logic for safe line operation
  • Monitoring via mimic-diagram panel or touch screen
  • Integrated alarm and shutdown with level, temperature and rotation sensors

Applications

  • Grain storage and handling facilities
  • Feed and flour mills
  • Port and licensed warehouse lines
  • Panel renewal and automation upgrades in existing plants

Integration with Plant and Automation Systems

The panels communicate with the temperature monitoring system, level sensors, bulk weigher and sampling probe so that the whole plant is managed from one centre. They can be connected to a SCADA infrastructure for remote monitoring and reporting.

Engineering and Selecting the Right Product

The number of units and motor ratings, operating scenarios, sensor infrastructure and remote monitoring needs determine the panel size, PLC capacity and operator interface. Expansion plans are covered with spare compartments at the engineering stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MCC panel houses the power and protection components of the motors, while the control panel is the mimic or screen interface from which the operator monitors and manages the line. In small plants both can be combined in one enclosure.

After reviewing the existing equipment list and operating scenario, the panels can be renewed and automation added to the plant.
